(Click on the Picture below for ordering information and a larger view.) Directly above Charlotte Amalie sits Blackbeard's Castle. One of the most infamous criminals of the high seas, Blackbeard, made his castle retreat a safe haven protected by the toughest rogues in the world. With a commanding view of the Queen's Harbor, Blackbeard carried on celebrations that became folk lore that far exceeded his exploits. Today on those same castle grounds you'll find a small beautiful hotel, restaurant & tavern featuring live jazz performances. Part of the territory includes a sugar mill which marks the period in history when most of this area was a banana and sugarcane plantation. This area is most favorably photographed in the morning or afternoon light. |
